The 3rd Canal City Model United Nations Conference (MUNC) was held in Wuxi, Jiangsu Province from July 27th to July 30th, 2023 Summer. With the theme of "Meet in Xicheng, Build Your Dreams for the Future", the conference was specially supported by the Consulate General of China in New York and the Foreign Affairs Office of the People's Government of Jiangsu Province, organized by the Working Committee of the United Nations Global Collaborative Project on the SDGs, guided by the Philadelphia Council on World Affairs, and co-organized by the Foreign Affairs Office of the People's Government of Wuxi, the Education Bureau of Wuxi, the Office of Women and Children's Work Committee of the People's Government of Wuxi, and undertaken by Window on Philadelphia and Denuo International Education. Wuxi Municipal People's Government Office of Foreign Affairs, Wuxi Municipal Education Bureau, Wuxi Municipal People's Government Office of Women and Children's Working Committee, Philadelphia Window, and Denuo International Education, with nearly 300 student representatives from all over the world.
The Canal City Model United Nations General Assembly improves students' speaking and debating skills, organizational planning and research and writing skills, their ability to resolve conflicts and seek common ground while reserving differences, their critical thinking, teamwork and leadership skills, their understanding of different cultures and their international outlook by mimicking the format of a United Nations conference, with the aim of fostering high-quality citizens with all-rounded and comprehensive development as well as young people with a global outlook. During the conference, student delegates discussed the sustainable development of canals, the protection of refugee children, the development of cultural tourism to achieve the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), food security systems based on new food technologies, and the construction of child-friendly cities, among other popular international topics. During the session, Mr. Gu Yanqun, a second-level director of the Office of the Women's and Children's Working Committee of the Wuxi Municipal Government, came to the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) as an invited mentor to share Wuxi's experience in building a child-friendly city with the student delegates, guiding them to a deeper understanding of the Committee's topic, "Removing barriers to building child-friendly cities" and proposing relevant solutions. It guided them to deeply understand the committee's topic, "Removing Barriers to Building Child-Friendly Cities," and proposed relevant solutions.
The six committees of the General Assembly voted to adopt five resolutions. Among them, the resolution of the UNHCR Committee will be submitted by the organizing committee to the UNHCR for evaluation by experts, and is expected to be included in the official "policy bank" of the UNHCR.

Ms. Ye Lian, Deputy Director of Foreign Affairs Office of Wuxi Municipal People's Government, delivered the closing speech. She said that the Canal City Model Congress was a valuable experience for the students. In the exchanges with excellent peers from all over the world, they not only learned the process of international affairs consultation and the operation of the deliberative bodies of the United Nations, but also realized their own historical mission and responsibility, and took a solid step forward to become high-level international talents in the future to build the country and the community of human destiny. She hoped that the students would take this Canal City Model United Conference as an opportunity to learn more about the knowledge and rules of the United Nations and related international organizations, and carry the concepts, knowledge and methods learned in the Model United activities into their future study and growth, so as to become high-quality international talents with global competence in the future.
Afterwards, the chairpersons of the committees summarized the four days of the conference, encouraging the youth delegates to continue to uphold the belief in globalization and internationalization, and to exchange ideas in a spirit of vitality and active participation, so as to embrace their better selves and a bigger world.
Zhu Shengkai from Zhuji High School in Zhejiang Province and Pan Wenhong from Wuxi Furen High School as representatives of the outstanding students delivered their speeches, sharing their gains and difficulties in the process of participating in the conference, as well as their own growth and joy in the conference of the Model League, and at the same time looking forward to the future with the delegates in a broader stage of exchange.
After four sessions of heated discussions, the following awards were finally decided: Best Delegate Award, Outstanding Delegate Award, Honorable Mention Award, Best Position Paper Award, Best Delegation Award, Outstanding Delegation Award, Honorable Mention Delegation Award, and other categories of awards in recognition of the delegates' outstanding performances in the conference.
The moderator announced the list of winners and invited the guests present to present award certificates and take group photos of the winning outstanding Model League delegates and teams.

At the end of the closing ceremony, Gloria Li, the general manager of the conference, came on stage to give a thank-you speech and talked about the concept of "Canal City Modeling Conference", hoping that the students could get in touch with international messages, expand their horizons, improve their abilities and make friends through the platform of Canal City Modeling Conference. At the same time, we hope that the students will see the importance of China's position on the world stage and grow up to be global citizens who speak for China. Finally, Gloria Li thanked all the governments, organizations and individuals for their support to the Canal City Modelling Conference, and hoped that all the delegates will have a full harvest in this conference, and meet each other at the 2024 Winter Canal City Ivy League International Modelling Conference in the United States!
